Arkansas Tech University kicks off a new football season with a tailgate and game against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Sept. 11. ATU fans express hope for a good season and eagerness for kickoff with hotdogs, music, and a ton of Wonder Boy spirit.

When asked how this tailgate compared to those previous, Kyleigh McCurnin, a senior nursing major from Rogers, said, “I like the close proximity of this area, and everybody facing each other. I think it makes it really personal and easy to walk to everybody’s tent.”

Attendees were encouraged to get engaged with spike ball, face painting, raffles, and more.

Numerous campus organizations tabled, among them the Student Government Association, Greek Life, Campus Ministries, and Student Activities Board.

Jax Andrews, a sophomore electrical engineering major from Center Ridge states, “There’s a lot more people here to begin with, which is a big thing. The more people you have, the more fun it’s going to be. It’s also fun to go to orgs that you really didn’t even know existed because they’re out here tabling.”

Not only was the energy high because of the first home football game, but also because it was Bid Day for the fraternities. Young men of various backgrounds are joined together in one brotherhood.

Rylie Tuttle, a sophomore computer science major from Bismark, expressed his growing excitement saying, “I was nervous because I was rushing a fraternity, but I came out here and I’ve been having a good time with all these people. All the music, good vibes. . . I’m excited to see where it takes me.”
