The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys football team pulled out a 17-6 win against the Henderson State Reddies in less-than-ideal conditions.

With the weather being a factor, the Wonder Boys were able to limit Henderson Sate’s offense. While Henderson was ranked first in the Great American Conference, averaging 274.6 yards per game, they only mustered 110 yards this game.

The first half was uneventful, ending in a 6-3 lead for Henderson State. It was evident that the weather conditions were putting strain on both teams.

The third quarter was similar to the first two, with the exception of the Wonder Boys having the only passing touchdown of the game. This gave the Wonder Boys a 10-6 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Reddies started the fourth quarter with the ball but ultimately failed to get anything going. The Wonder Boys seized their opportunity, scoring another touchdown and earning the extra point for a new score of 17-6.

Henderson got the ball back after ATU’s touchdown with only minutes remaining on the clock. After making progress and immediately losing it, getting flagged for intentional grounding, and a failed pass into the endzone, Henderson took the loss as ATU ran the clock.

With a final score of 17-6, ATU beat Henderson State. This victory was monumental for Arkansas Tech, as they have not beat both Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist in the same season since 2007.

The Wonder Boys’ next game is on Nov. 1 at Thone Stadium where they will play Southern Nazarene at 2 p.m.
