The Graduate College and Norman Career Services hosted Lunch and Learn on Sept. 9 to educate students of Arkansas Tech University’s graduate programs. The event was hosted by Career Counselor Yushia “Yoshi” Thao and Coordinator of Graduate Recruiter Piper Orio-Dettling.

Q: Can you get your Bachelor’s and Master’s in four Years at Arkansas Tech University?

A: Yes. Most students at ATU don’t know about the Accelerated Bachelor to Master’s Degree program (AB2M) that is offered. This program works by providing dual credit courses for both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees. To apply for this program, you must be a junior or senior, have at least 90 completed credits toward your degree, and have a minimum of a 3.00 GPA and be able to maintain it.

Q: What can I do as a freshman or sophomore?

A: As a freshman or sophomore, you can work on maintaining a 3.00 minimum GPA and working towards the 90 completed credits towards your degree. It is also strongly encouraged to meet with your advisor to plan how to go about the AB2M program.

Q: Where do I apply?

A: Go to your OneTech account and find the “Academic Documents-Student” card and click on the “Accelerated Bachelor to Master Program” link. There is a $40 application fee, but you can always request a fee waiver if you need. Once you get accepted into the program, you can start earning dual credit hours towards both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees

Q: Does my FAFSA and financial aid cover this program?

A: No, but don’t let that prevent you from choosing this program. Being a part of the AB2M program means you are considered to be in the graduate college and are therefore not covered by FAFSA or financial aid. However, the grad college has a scholarship foundation, you can apply to be a graduate assistant, and many more scholarships and opportunities to pay for your graduate college expenses.
