Norman Hall Art Gallery Hosts First Exhibit of Fall 2021

Burning at Both Ends by Michael Shaeffer

The Norman Hall Art Gallery is currently hosting its first art exhibition of the fall 2021 semester. Featured in the exhibit are works by Long Island native and current Little Rock resident Michael Shaeffer.

This series of portraits by Shaeffer is titled “Both Ends Burning” and is based on the New York city club scene in the late 90s and early 2000s.

“This series is really about the club scene,” Shaeffer said in his Sept. 8 gallery talk in Norman Hall.

“The beauty of that scene to me is the freedom of being who you are and, not necessarily who you feel like you’re supposed to be and, that’s why I’ve put a lot of focus on the club scene.” The exhibit opened Aug. 16 and at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Two more exhibits are scheduled to come to the Norman Hall art gallery this fall. These exhibitions will include the “Small Works On Paper 2021” touring juried exhibition presented by the Arkansas Arts Council, scheduled to open Oct. 4, and the 15th Annual Juried Tech Student Exhibition, sponsored by Bridgestone Americas, opening Nov. 3.
