Republican activist and ally of President Donald Trump, 31-year-old Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while attending a campus event at Utah Valley University. A suspect was detained but later released.
Multiple videos have been surfacing of the incident that happened shortly after noon. One video, in particular, shows Kirk being asked about mass shootings right before the shot was fired, hitting him in the neck. Kirk was rushed to the hospital and in critical condition. Shortly after, he was pronounced dead.
Turning Point USA, an organization founded by Kirk, stated “It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Charles James Kirk has been murdered by a gunshot that took place during Turning Point USA’s ‘The American Comeback Tour’ campus event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.” Trump took to his social platform, Truth Social, to announce that Kirk had succumbed to his injuries.
The attendees were evacuated by police, among them were Kirk’s wife and two children. There have been multiple reports of the shot coming from an academic building nearby, and the FBI has taken a new subject into custody.
Numerous political figures have taken to their social media accounts to express their feelings towards this act of violence. Former President Barack Obama posted on X saying “…this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy.”
