Arkansas Tech University’s Office of Study Abroad hosted their weekly International Coffee Hour, featuring the culture of Bangladesh on Thursday, Sep. 11th at Dean 117. This gave staff, instructors, and students a special chance to learn about another region of the world through cuisine, discussions, and cultural exhibits.

“The purpose is to bring students, faculty, and staff from all over the world together to interact,” said Gabriele Hallmark, director of International Education. “It’s probably our most successful regular program because it creates a space for people to connect.”

The event was hosted by Dr. Robin Ghosh, who is from the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Dr. Ghosh shared information about Bangladesh and traditional foods, including biscuits and puffed rice with peanuts, while also offering insights into the country’s rich cultural history. “Food is an important part of culture,” Dr. Ghosh explained. “Sharing these dishes allows people to experience a piece of Bangladesh, even if they’ve never traveled there.” Sabrina Anwar contributed homemade dishes such as Murali, fruit cake, and flattened rice snacks served with spiced milk tea, as well as coffee.

The weekly coffee hour takes place Thursdays from 4p.m. to 5 p.m., giving the ATU community a chance to learn about different cultures through food, games, and conversation.
