On Oct. 23, Arkansas Tech’s Golden Suns volleyball team started off slow, but was able to take their match at Southeastern Oklahoma 3-1.

The Golden Suns struggled in the opening set, committing several unforced errors. However, things started to turn around at the end of the set. With the SE at game point, and a score of 17-24, ATU was able to pull a run of six points, making the score 23-24. The Savage Storm was able to break ATU’s streak and take the first set, however the Golden Suns were riled up.

ATU’s momentum continued into the second set as they took a 12-point lead with a score of 24-12. A service error from SE eventually gave the Golden Suns their first set.

ATU was able to keep this ball rolling, taking the last two sets. The Savage Storm managed to get close at times; however, ATU was able to regain control. The Golden Suns took the third set, 25-12 and the fourth set, 25-17, finishing the match 3-1.

The biggest stat that is very telling of the match is the Golden Suns doubled up the Savage Storm in kills by 62-31.

The highlight of the statistics is the kill ratio, with the Golden Suns doubling the Savage Storm 62-31. ATU’s leaders in kills were right-side hitter Henley Hooks, #9, with 17 kills, outside hitter Savannah Meyer, #23, with 16 kills, and outside hitter Millie Allgood, #12, with 9 kills.

The Golden Suns will be back in Tucker Coliseum against another Great American Conference opponent, the East Central Tigers, on Friday, Oct. 24 at 4pm.
