Tech Comes up Short Against Weevils

On Sept. 25 the Wonder Boys faced off against the University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils and lost 27-20.

The Wonder Boys won the coin toss and started the game with a 55-yard kickoff by Jesus Zizumbo of Springdale. The first quarter was tight with the score remaining at zero-zero until UAM made the first touchdown with 4:17 left in the quarter.

At the Tech 35-yard line, Jack Lindsey of Springdale threw a pass to Joyrion Chase of Marion who gained 10-yards for a first down.

To end the first quarter Ron Thompson of Bassfield, Mississippi gained one yard to start Tech off at the UAM 3-yard line to start the second quarter.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Tech had a false start penalty and lost 5-yards. Lindsey rushed for 5-yards to gain the UAM 3-yard line and then again to gain the UAM 2-yard line.

Jordan Edington of Little Rock rushed 2 yards for a touchdown. Zizumbo made the extra point attempt and tied the score seven-seven.

With 8:15 left in the second quarter Aaron Winn of Summerville, South Carolina punted the ball for 43-yards to UAM.

With two seconds left on the clock, Zizumbo kicked a field goal and gave the Wonder Boys the lead going into halftime 10-7.

Tech started the third quarter with a 1-yard rush from Caleb Batie of Foxworth, Mississippi. Batie was taken down at the Tech 16-yard line.

The Wonder Boys made it to the Tech 27-yard line. Lindsey then threw two incomplete passes. Winn then punted 48-yards to UAM.

With seven minutes left UAM scored a touchdown and took the lead 13-10.

Lindsey threw an 18-yard pass to Mason Ross of Rogers for a first down. With a minute left in the third quarter, Lindsey rushed 4-yards for a touchdown that was nullified for a penalty on Tech for holding, resulting in a 10-yard loss for ATU.

With 37-seconds left Zizumbo attempted a field goal, again tying the score 13-13. UAM finished off the third quarter with a play giving them a first down at their 19-yard line.

UAM had possession at the start of the fourth quarter. After a few attempts at a first down UAM punted 21-yards to the Wonder Boys with the fair catch by Tyrus Fort of Rockwall, Texas.

Tech was unable to get a first down and Winn punted 44-yards to UAM. With eight minutes left in the game, UAM scored a touchdown and took the lead 20-13.

Thompson gained the Wonder Boy’s first down at the Tech 46-yard line. Lindsey rushed 24-yards for another first down. Batie rushed two yards putting the Wonder Boys at the UAM 12-yard line.

Lindsey threw a pass that was intercepted by UAM Greg Hook who ran 77-Yards for a touchdown.

With three-minutes left the score was 27-13. Tech was able to close the gap after a touchdown by Batie making the score 27-20.

UAM then ran out the clock ending the game with the final score of 27-20.
