Gone Away Weekend Part III

Footsteps on the Stairs

Previously…

…I start to tremble.  What if Dante’s not trying to scare us?

I got to the back door and noticed it was slightly open, and it looked like something was smeared across the inside of the door frame; it was too dark to tell what it was.  I pushed the door open a little more, and as it creaked, I began to panic.  What if someone heard me?

“Dante?” I whispered quietly.

I turn a light on, and it looks like nobody’s been home in a week.  Everything was in place, and nothing looked destroyed.  I felt a calm feeling flush through me.  It has to be a prank, right?  I go to the front door and let Leila in.  I told her what I found and that it seemed like a safe prank.

“You promise?” Leila said, nervous that something terrible was going to happen.

“Of course,”

We walked around the house for a bit when we heard a noise from upstairs.

“Stay here.  I’ll be right back.”  I said to Leila as I started up the stairs.

Once I got upstairs, all I could hear was silence.  It wasn’t adding up.  I looked around for a bit and found nothing.  Everything looked normal.  I stopped walking for just a moment to look around, and the next time I tried to move, I couldn’t.  I couldn’t even put words out.  I’d heard of this before but only when you’re asleep.  It’s got a creepy name, but I can’t remember it.  I look up, and Dante is standing in front of me.  Except it doesn’t look like Dante…  This person had blue eyes, while Dante’s eyes were medium brown.  What was going on?  Suddenly, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs.  Leila… please no.
